After my regular cleaning the other day, my dentist sauntered in, all smiles, saying, "Any broken teeth? Everyone I see has broken teeth these days."
"No, I think they're still whole," I answered. But after examination, it turned out I was wrong. I had small cracks in a few molars on each side, both on top and below. I was given a coupon for a mouth guard and told that I was clenching my teeth while I slept. My damage is slight. My dentist is making a fortune capping all the ground-down teeth. Apparently, this has become a much bigger issue this year. Our teeth, like our bodies, are dealing with a lot of stress.
I have lasted half an hour, each night, in the mouth guard. But I'm feeling confident that the clenching had already decreased. For the past week, many physical and mental ailments have been greatly reduced. This miraculous healing has been free. I've been "earthing," also called "grounding."
I've been walking barefoot in my backyard, for about 20 minutes at a time, and it seems to be changing my life.
This started with my Functional Dr. telling me that her best advice for overcoming my autoimmune issues (sudden loss of energy being my biggest frustration) was to do biochemistry-based energy work. She recommended going to a Dr. who uses biofeedback to help your body heal itself. She agreed that nutrition was important as well, but I have that part down and was still having some issues. I was ready to pay the big bucks to try this physics-based energy work. But now, that is on hold, because she also sent me this link: - https://www.earthingmovie.com/ with lots of information about earthing. It also has a link to a great documentary on the subject.
The stories of people's healing, from simply reconnecting to the energy that comes from putting our feet in the earth, were inspiring. The film shares the science behind why this works. Especially in our modern world, full of electromagnetic fields (in the form of iphones, computers, bluetooth, etc.) we are surrounded by positive charges. The earth provides a negative charge that balances this out as well as alleviating the presence of free radicals (a huge cause of inflammation and disease in our bodies.) It just makes sense. To me, this feels radically different than some of the new age pseudo-science techniques I've read about. This is grounded (forgive me) in common sense, in native wisdom, in what is right and good.
When I stick my feet in the grass, I can feel the difference immediately.
I realize that many of you have been practicing this for a while! I am late to the outdoor party, having been attached to my Dansko Clogs like a security blanket.
For any of you who may have teeth or sleep issues, any kind of inflammation issues (which is pretty much all of us) or just need some help coping, and haven't been earthing already, I highly recommend you watch the video.

Madeline

p.s. For Pippa, and those that live near the sea: It turns out the minerals in the salt water are grounding too!
